Wrench It Up > Academy > DIY > How To Clear A Bathtub Clog Without Calling A Plumber?
If you are faced with a stubborn bathtub clog, do not panic. You may be able to clear it without calling in a plumber. Follow these steps:
1. Gather Supplies – To clear the clog, you will need a plunger, a drain snake, and some baking soda and vinegar.
2. Use the Plunger – The first thing to try is a plunger, as it may be able to unclog your drain without any help from additional tools or chemicals. Place the plunger over the bathtub drain and cover it with water, then pump vigorously up and down several times. If the clog can be cleared with a plunger, it should start to move out of the drain.
3. Use the Drain Snake – If the plunger does not work, you may need to use a drain snake or auger. Insert the end of the tool into the drain and turn it as far down as it will go. Push the tool gently but firmly into the clog and then turn it back up and out. This should help dislodge any debris that is blocking your drain.
4. Use a Baking Soda and Vinegar Solution – This is another method you can try to clear a stubborn bathtub clog. Mix equal parts baking soda and vinegar in a bowl and pour the solution down the drain. If it is hot out, you can warm the mixture up first to make it more effective. Wait at least an hour for the mixture to work its magic and then use hot water to flush the clog out of your drain.
