Wrench It Up > Academy > DIY > How To Detect And Remove Tree Roots In The Sanitary Sewer Line
If you have trees in your yard, there is a good chance that tree roots have made their way into your sanitary sewer line. While tree roots are an important part of the ecosystem, they can cause serious problems for your plumbing.
If tree roots are growing into your sewer line, it can cause all sorts of problems. Tree roots can break through the pipe, causing leaks and blockages. They can also clog the pipe, leading to sewage backups and overflows. In extreme cases, tree roots can even cause the pipe to collapse entirely. Obviously, this is something you want to avoid! So, how can you tell if tree roots are growing into your sewer line?
Here is what you need to know about detecting and removing tree roots from your sanitary sewer line.
If you hear gurgling sounds coming from your plumbing, it could be because tree roots are impeding the flow of water.
If sewage is backing up into your home, it is almost certainly because of tree roots in the sewer line.
Once tree roots have been confirmed as the cause of the problem, the next step is to remove them. This can be done by flushing the drain with a high-pressure water jet or by physically removing the roots with a root cutter. If you have tree roots in your sanitary sewer line, do not panic. With a little bit of knowledge and effort, you can easily remove them and get your plumbing back to normal.
First, it is important to know where your main sewer line is located. This is typically in the front or back yard, near the street. If you are not sure where yours is, give us a call and we will be happy to come out and take a look. Once you have located your sewer line, it is time to start looking for tree roots.
Tree roots usually enter the sewer line through cracks or holes in the pipe. They can also enter through the joints, where the pipe sections are connected. To find tree roots in your sewer line, start by looking for small trees or shrubs growing near the line. If you see any, it is a good indication that there are roots growing in or around the pipe.
Once you have located the tree roots, it is time to cut them. This can be done with a variety of tools, including a plumbing snake, root cutter, or even a saw. Just be sure to wear gloves and eye protection when using any of these tools. After cutting the roots, flush your sewer line with water to remove any debris.
