The flapper valve is an essential part of a toilet tank that controls the water flow from the tank into the bowl.
1. Turn off the water supply: Locate the water valve behind the toilet and turn it off by turning the valve clockwise. This will stop the water flow to the tank.
2. Empty the toilet tank: Flush the toilet to drain the tank completely. Use a towel or rag to wipe away any remaining water.
3. Remove the old flapper valve: Locate the old flapper valve and remove it by detaching the chain from the flush lever. Use adjustable pliers to detach the flapper valve from the overflow tube.
4. Clean the tank: Use a scrub brush or sponge to clean the tank and the area around the valve seat to remove any debris or buildup.
5. Install the new flapper valve: Place the new flapper valve onto the valve seat and attach the chain to the flush lever. Make sure the valve is centered over the drain hole and that the chain has enough slack to allow the valve to close completely.
6. Turn the water supply back on: Turn the water valve behind the toilet back on by turning it counter clockwise. Allow the tank to refill and check for any leaks around the new flapper valve.
7. Test the new valve: Flush the toilet several times to make sure the new flapper valve is functioning properly. Adjust the chain length if necessary.
Replacing a toilet flapper valve is a simple process that can be done with a few tools and some basic knowledge. By following these steps, you can fix any issues with your toilet and ensure it is functioning properly.
