Faulty washing machines can be very frustrating, especially if your machine will not fill with water. Before you call for a repairman or replace your machine altogether, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
First, check that the hoses providing water to your washing machine are securely connected.
Next, make sure the inlet valve on the wall behind the washer is open and that all screens are clear of debris. Check for any kinks or bends in the hoses that might be preventing water from flowing properly. It is also a good idea to remove and check each hose for any clogs or blockages.
Next, check the water pressure of the incoming water supply. If you do not have a pressure gauge, you can buy one at any hardware store. You will want to make sure that your water pressure is between 30 and 80 psi (pounds per square inch). If the pressure is below 40 psi then it could be a cause of your washing machine issues. You may need to have a plumber come out and inspect the lines to increase the pressure if this is the case.
