Wrench It Up > Academy > DIY > Remodeling Your Shower Faucet: A Step-By-Step Guide To Shower Faucet Installation
Step 1: Turn off the water supply to your shower. This is usually done by turning off the main water supply valve to your home.
Step 2: Remove the old shower faucet. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen and remove the nuts and bolts that are holding the old faucet in place. Be sure to also remove any screws or mounting hardware that may be holding the faucet in place.
Step 3: Clean the area where the old faucet was removed using a soft cloth or sponge. Apply plumbers putty to the base of the new faucet and insert it into the mounting holes.
Step 4: Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts and bolts that hold the new faucet in place. Be sure not to over tighten, as this can damage the faucet or the plumbing.
Step 5: Use a pipe cutter or hacksaw to cut the water supply pipes to the correct length. Measure the distance between the faucet and the water supply pipes, and be sure to leave enough pipes to connect the faucet to the water supply.
Step 6: Wrap Teflon tape around the threads of the water supply pipes to create a tight seal.
Step 7: Use an adjustable wrench to connect the water supply pipes to the faucet. Be sure to tighten the connections carefully, but do not over tighten.
Step 8: Install the showerhead and handle. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully, and use a level to ensure that everything is installed properly.
Step 9: Turn on the water supply and test the faucet for leaks. If you notice any leaks, tighten the connections as needed.
